Backward Scheduling
Figure 75: Backward Scheduling in the Sales Order
The objective of delivery and transportation scheduling is to confirm a
deliverydateforthematerialrequestedbythecustomer,whileconsidering
theleadtimeforprocessingandtheavailabilityofmaterials.
In backward scheduling, the material availability date and the
transportation planning date are calculated by subtracting the various
delivery processing lead times from the customer’s requested delivery
date. Inordertomeetthecustomer’srequesteddeliverydate, shipping
processing must begin on the earlier of the two dates (this date will
becometheselectiondateusedduringthecreationoftheoftheoutbound
delivery document).

Forward Scheduling
Figure 76: Forward Scheduling in the Sales Order
If the result of backward scheduling determines that the delivery date
requested by the customer cannot be confirmed, R/3 executes forward
scheduling.
In forward scheduling, R/3 will seek to find the earliest material
availabilitydatefortherequiredmaterial. Thisdatewillbethenewstart

When executing forward scheduling, R/3 will take into consideration
