Lesson Objectives

After completingthislesson, you will beable to:

• Giveanoverviewofthestandard deliverytypes

Business Example

In shipping and goods receipt, you map different business transactions using

differentdeliverytypes,andyoumaythereforerequireseparatedeliverytypesfor

processing expressdeliveries, stocktransfers, returns delivery, andsoon. The

differentdeliverytypesusuallyrequiredifferentprocessingwithinshipping. For

example,returnsdeliveriesdonotrequireanypickingactivities.

SCM610 Lesson: Controlling Deliveries

The delivery type controls the entire delivery. You see the delivery type in

the delivery header. The delivery typestakeinto account the various business

transactionsinshippingandgoodsreceiptprocessing. Thedeliverytypesdefined

in the standard system include:

• EL: Inbounddelivery (shipping notification)

• LB: Delivery for subcontract order

• LF: Outbound delivery

• LO:Deliverywithoutreference(nosalesordernecessaryinordertocreate

a delivery)

• LP: Delivery from project

• RE: Returns delivery

• NL: Replenishment delivery

Usingcontrolelements,youcanconfigureeachdeliverytypetocarryoutdifferent

functions. You can adjust the delivery types in the standard system to meet

your business requirements. However, if you require major adjustments, we

recommendthat youcreate anew delivery type.

SCM610 Lesson: Controlling Deliveries

If order itemsaredelivered, the (order) itemcategorythat isdetermined in the

sales document is transferred to the delivery item. In this way, to understand

thedeliveryCustomizing,itisimportantthatyouknowabouttheitemcategory

determination in the sales document.

A maximum of four criteria may affect the process of determining the item

category in the sales document:

1. Thesalesdocumenttypeoftheorder. Whenyoucreateanorder,theordertype

isusuallydeterminedbythedecisionoftheemployeewhocreatestheorder

2. Theitemcategorygroup. Theitemcategorygroupisdefinedforeachmaterial

orforeachmaterial,salesorganizationanddistributionchannel. Youcantherefore

usethematerialofthesalesdocumentitemtoinfluencethecontrol(=orderitem

category) of the document item.

3. Itemcategoryusage. Inconnectionwithspecificfunctionsand/orprocessesof

processes. Theuseoftheitemcategoryusagetodeterminetheorderitemcategory

isthereforepartofthebasicprogramming. Fortheitemcategorydetermination

intheorder,youcanalsodefineanitemcategoryusageinthecustomermaterial

information master record.

4. Itemcategoryofhigher-levelitem. Ifthesalesdocumentitemisasubitem,the

itemcategoryofthisitemisaffectedbythepreviously-determineditemcategory

of the higher-level item.

In Customizing, for a characteristic (for which there is a maximum of four

criteria),youcandefineanitemcategoryasdefaultfortheautomaticproposaland

other item categories for manual usage.

Unit3: ControllingDeliveries SCM610

No(order)itemcategoryisspecified(orcanbetransferred)fororder-independent

items in the delivery (for example, packing material), for deliveries without

referencetoanorder(deliverytypeLO),orforoutbounddeliveries(forexample,

delivery type EL for a purchase order).

Inthiscase, thesystemdeterminesanitemcategoryforthedeliveryaccording

to theassignmentsspecified inCustomizing. Theitem category determination

in the delivery is very similar to the item category determination in the order.

Todeterminetheitemcategory, thesystemtakesintoaccountthedeliverytype

andtheitemcategory group(from thematerial master of the item concerned).

Additionalusagesaresetinternallyforsomefunctions,suchas:

• PACK for generating packing items

• CHSP for a batch split

• PSEL for product selection

• V for inbound deliveries for purchaseorders

Thismeansthatthesystemcandetermineadifferentitemcategoryforthedelivery

items resulting from these functions.

Note: Usage:

The determination of a usage is hard-coded. This means that they are

located in the ongoing process of the program. You can use only a

modification,andnotCustomizing,tochangethedetermination. Ausage

canbespecifiedinthecustomer-materialinforecord. Theitemcategory

determinationconsidersthisonlyintheorderandnotinthedelivery.

Item category group

The material master contains the field Item Category Group twice: A

“general Item Category group” and an “Item Category Group”. The

generalitemcategorygroupdoesnotrefertothesalesorganizationand

distributionchannel. Thisentryisusedforinbounddeliveries. Theother

entryisusedifthedeliverycontainsasalesorganizationanddistribution

channel (for example, outbound deliveries).

Figure 17: Shipping-Relevant Customizing in Sales

• Whethertheoutbounddeliveryisautomaticallycreatedinthebackground

items. Youcanset,forexample,atextitemasrelevantfordeliverysothatitwill

betransferredtotheoutbounddeliveryfromthestandardorderandistherefore

availableinthedeliverydocument. Physicaldeliveriesusingtheinterfacetothe

MM Inventory Management componentareonly possible if schedulelinesare

used. This is why inthis standard case schedule linesmust beallowed for the

order item category, and theschedulelinecategory must be set as relevant for

delivery. Thegoodsissuemovement type(orgoodsreceiptmovementtypefor

returnsdeliveries)isdefinedattheschedulelinecategorylevel.

These settings have certain effects:

• All delivery item categories must also be defined as item categories in

Salesand Distribution, even item categoriesthat arenever found insales

documents. For example, DLN or ELN.

• Determinationofaschedulelinemustbeconfiguredforallitemcategories

in Sales and Distribution that do not have sales document category 7 as

which agoodsmovement should be posted. Reason: the movement type

comesfromthetransactiontype. Youcandirectlyspecifythemovementtype
