Lesson Objectives
After completingthislesson, you will beable to:
• Demonstrate periodic reposting, distribution, and assessment and the
differences between them
• Defineandexecutedistributionsandassessmentsusingthecyclesegment
method.
• Name other cost allocation functions
Business Example
The distribution allocates primary costs and the assessment of primary and
secondarycoststothecostincurringManagementAccountingobjects.
Distribution
Cost centersfunction assenders in indirectactivityallocation. Thereceivers
of anindirect activity allocationcanbecost centers, WBSelements, internal

Depending on the activity type category, you can use one of two allocation
methods:
• When you can determine the total activity forthe sender, use indirect
activityallocationtodistributethepostedactivityquantitiesfromthesender
to the receiver based on specific keys.
• For activitiesthat are tobe planned on asender object, useactivity type
category three (manual entry, indirect allocation). The corresponding

Forperiodicreposting, noseparatecreditrecordiswrittentothesender for the

Comparedwithperiodicreposting, duringdistribution, thesystemalsoupdates

As fewer totals records are written during periodic reposting, performanceis
better than during distribution. See Customizing for an example with figures
that illustrates this.
