a) Standard ledgers are configured and delivered by SAP. The data
model and specific functions for certain business requirements are
alreadyset in the individual applications.
Special purpose ledgers are user-defined ledgers for which you
specify attributes that correspond toyour businessrequirements. A
special purpose ledger is the only type of ledger you can create in

Unit1: FI-SL:SpecialReporting AC220
a) Listafew“specialreportingrequirements,”whichcouldenableusers
to useFI-SL asanenhancement to thestandardapplication areasin
Accounting. You can usespecial-purposeledgers for thefollowing
purposes:
1. Toreportadditionalfields(→additionallevelsofdetail,totals
for specific field combinations)
2. To collect data selectively ( → activity assignment, ledger

3. Toupdatealternativechartsofaccounts(→operating,country,

4. Tospecifyyourownperioddefinitions,suchasday,week,and

5. To make evaluations that affect several applications and
organizationalunits,suchascompanycodes,companies,business
and controlling areas.
6. To make changes in FI-SL while updating the date, such as
substitutions and summarizations.
AdvantagesofUsingtheFI-SLSpecialLedgerSystem
The FI-SL system is a tool you can use to enhance the functions
availableinotherSAPapplications,suchasGeneralLedger(FI-GL),
Profit Center Accounting (EC-PCA), or Cost Center Accounting
(CO-CCA), without modifying the standard system. You can use
FI-SLtoaddcodingblockdimensionstoyourdatabasetables. Other
advantagesof theFI-SL system include:
FlexibleDatabaseStructureswithAdditionalFields
You cancreateyour owndatabasetablesanddefinedimensionsnot
availableinthestandardsystem,suchas“specialregion”,tomeetthe
specific business and reporting requirements. As a result, you can
compileandsummarizeinformationatthelevelofdetailyourequire
for any code combination.
Selective Data Collection
Data flowin FI-SL isvariable. Youcanassign activities tospecific
company code/ledger or company/ledger combinations to specify
whichledgersaretobeupdated. Youcanuseselectionconditionsto
limit the number of ledgers updated.

accountingperiods,thefiscalyear,andtheaccountingperiodsinthe
fiscal year.
You can use this function to report, for example, on a weekly or
monthly basis.
FI-SL-SpecificChangesinUpdatingData
ToensurethatonlyvaliddataisrecordedintheFI-SLsystem,youcan

Addanewfieldtodatabasetables(BSEG,COEP,andMSEG)andaddentriesto
