Hints on Teaching This Course

TherearethreethingsthatIliketodobeforeIstarttheclass. Thethreethingsset

the expectations of the class:

• ReiteratethatthisisaLevel3classandIexpectthattheparticipantshave

taken the Level 1 and Level 2 courses. If not, the pace of the class will

be challenging. I like to get this across because there are always a few

participantsineveryclasswhohaveneverattendedaSAPclassbeforeand

betteryet,arestillintheprocessofimplementingandhavenevergottheir

hands onto a system yet.

• Dealingwithquestions(1). Irequestthattheparticipantskeepthequestions

focusedonthetopic. Itwillbeyourjobtoholdthemtothataswell. Don’t

gettooinvolvedin“consultingquestions”. Keepthequestionsfocusedso

that you can stay on schedule.

• Dealingwithquestions(2). Irequestthattheparticipantsasktheir“personal”

questions after class where you can spend more time on their questions

ratherthanaquick5-10minuteshereandthereatbreaks. Classroomtime

is for learning.

• This course does not cover specialist topics such as archiving, currency

conversion, and ALE and export ledger. Thesecouldpossibly havebeen

included. But instead of ’packing’ in these ancillary topics, the course

concentrates on the more important topics. The allotted 4-1/2 days are

required to cover these important topics.

Standard Ledgers and Special-Purpose Ledgers: Clear separation of

assignments.

“Cost-of-Sales Accounting”:

1. Thesalesrevenuesfrom thebillingdocument

2. Thecostsofgoodssoldfromthegoodsissue(standardprice)

3. The possible production variances resulting from a) the settlement of

a production order b) the over/under absorption (debits/credits) on the

production objects(cost centersand orders.)

4. Overheads posted to the other cost objects with the same technique

of derivation per substitution for the functional areas, sales, general

administration, research and development.
